SUMMARY:The Quiet Epidemic: Salida Steam Plant Theater
DESCRIPTION:Share this content:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]THE QUIET EPIDEMIC-SALIDA:\nThe Colorado Tick-Borne Disease Awareness Association\, 501c3; Chaffee County Public Health; and Partnership for Community Action are privileged to host the screening of The Quiet Epidemic\, a feature-length documentary about Lyme disease. The film will be immediately followed by an expert panel conversation. May 5\, 2023\, Salida\, CO is the second stop for this film tour in Colorado! \nABOUT THE FILM:\nAfter years of living with mysterious symptoms\, a young girl from Brooklyn and a Duke University scientist are diagnosed with a disease said to not exist: Chronic Lyme disease. \nThe Quiet Epidemic follows their search for answers\, which lands them in the middle of a vicious medical debate. What begins as a patient story evolves into an investigation into the history of Lyme disease\, dating back to its discovery in 1975. A paper trail of suppressed scientific research\, and buried documents reveals why ticks – and the diseases they carry – have been allowed to quietly spread around the globe. \nAccording to a new CDC estimate\, 476\,000 people are diagnosed with Lyme disease yearly in the United States alone\, yet our public health agencies and policymakers remain largely unresponsive. The same small group of doctors and public health officials have continued to control the science and the narrative of denial for decades. ‍We intend to change that. \n[/vc_column_text][vc_video link=”https://youtu.be/f8pBkzUwb88″ title=”Watch the trailer to The Quiet Epidemic”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]PANEL MEMBERS FOR SALIDA SCREENING:\nThe film screening will be followed by a conversation with The Quiet Epidemic filmmakers Lindsay Keys and Winslow Crane-Murdoch\, as well as Julie Barter\, ND;  Sharon P. Austin\, PsyD; Lyme patients\, and advocates.
