SUMMARY:Monica White & Colorado Tick-Borne Disease Awareness Association
DESCRIPTION:Share this content:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] \nDetails\n\nCameras on as we welcome Monica White co-founder and President of Colorado Tick-Borne Disease Awareness Association. Born on the East coast\, Monica spent her childhood and early adulthood active in the outdoors of New England\, graduating with a BS in Wildlife Management from the University of New Hampshire in 1992. She moved west to Colorado where she worked as a wildlife biologist and wildland firefighter throughout most of her career with the United States Forest Service\, until becoming ill with Lyme disease and multiple co-infections. \nMonica is a mom of two children infected with Lyme disease and multiple co-infections\, her husband was infected as well. She serves on the Public Tick Integrated Pest Management working group\, served as a subcommittee member on the Federal Health & Human Services Tick-Borne Disease Working Group (TBDWG) Disease Vectors\, Surveillance and Prevention Subcommittee in 2018 and Babesia & other Tick-Borne Pathogens Subcommittee in 2020. She is currently a programmatic panel member of the DoD’s Congressionally Directed Medical Research Program (CDMRP)\,Tick-Borne Disease Research Program (TBDRP).  She annually partners with Center for Lyme Action to advocate for increased Federal funding of Lyme and other TBD disease research and serves as a board member for Mothers Against Lyme.  She hopes to contribute to the change needed to combat Lyme and other tick-borne diseases\, especially in children. \n\nShe Co-Authored: H Joel Hutcheson\, James W Mertins\, Boris C Kondratieff\, Monica M White\, Ticks and Tick-Borne Diseases of Colorado\, Including New State Records for Argas radiatus (Ixodida: Argasidae) and Ixodes brunneus (Ixodida: Ixodidae)\, Journal of Medical Entomology\, 2020; tjaa232\,  https://doi.org/10.1093/jme/tjaa232 \nRegister for this free event at https://www.meetup.com/Colorado-Lyme-TBD-support-group/events/276648618/[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

SUMMARY:Lyme Disease & Pregnancy
DESCRIPTION:Share this content:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] \n\n\n\nMothers Against Lyme & Project Lyme present an interactive webinar with research program officers from the NIH\nAbout this Event\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLyme disease infects nearly half million men\, women\, and children across the U.S. each year. The third most prevalent infectious disease (behind Chlamydia and Gonorrhea\, both STD’s)\, Lyme disease saddles a large percentage of its victims with lingering symptoms\, diminishing their health\, well-being\, and quality of life. When the disease strikes children\, it is especially heartbreaking\, as little ones suffer early in life\, never experiencing a life without the pain of disease. While it is widely accepted that Lyme disease is spread by a tick bite\, it is less well known that the agent of Lyme disease\, Borrelia burgdorferi\, can cross the placenta\, both infecting\, and causing harm to\, unborn children. \nIn partnership with the National Institutes of Health to encourage new research in the field of tick-borne illness\, this webinar will provide researchers the opportunity to learn about the application process and seek guidance from NIH program officers. Don’t miss this opportunity to learn how to gain access to newly available funds from the Federal government. \nLyme Disease and Pregnancy: State of the Science and Opportunities for Research Support\nAgenda\n1. Lyme Disease and Pregnancy: Why Research is Urgently Needed \nIsabel Rose\, Chair\, Mothers Against Lyme and Board Member\, Project Lyme \n2. Maternal-Fetal Transmission of Lyme Disease: Research Gaps and Opportunities \nSue Faber\, RN\, BScN and President\, LymeHope \n3.
