SUMMARY:Dr. Horowitz Presentation
DESCRIPTION:Share this content:Healing Chronic Illness / Tick-Borne Diseases \n& Preventing Future Cognitive Decline \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWatch replay at LymeDisease.org Facebook page – fast forward for a bit to get to actual presentation with Dr. H \nDr. Horowitz Healing Chronic Illness – Replay of Presentation on LDO Facebook Page \n\nDESCRIPTION: \nTick‑borne diseases (TBD) are showing up everywhere these days — so much so that experts now estimate about one in seven people worldwide have been affected. At the same time\, dementia rates keep climbing. A 2025 study even suggested that adults over 55 now face roughly a 42% lifetime risk. Those numbers can feel overwhelming\, but they also raise an important question: what’s driving all of this? \nResearchers now understand that dementia usually isn’t caused by just one thing. It’s often the result of many different factors working together over time. Interestingly\, the same 16 MSIDS (Multiple Systemic Infectious Disease Syndrome) factors linked to chronic Lyme disease and long COVID have also been connected to Alzheimer’s and other forms of cognitive decline. \nThis talk will break down what that means in everyday language. We’ll look at how chronic Lyme disease can involve a mix of overlapping issues\, how infections like Lyme may play a role in long‑term brain health\, and what current research is showing about dapsone combination therapy. Early studies suggest it may help with symptoms like fatigue\, pain\, and cognitive challenges\, and may also help calm inflammation in the brain — something researchers believe could contribute to future memory problems. \n*This event will be available via Zoom to the first 1\,000 viewers\, with overflow viewers able to watch via livestream on the Lymedisease.org Facebook page. \n\nNEW BOOK RELEASE: Ending Chronic Illness \nPre-order now and use code RICHARD15 for 15% off plus a signed bookplate. HOROWITZ & SPONSORING GROUPS:  CLICK IMAGE \n \n\nDR. HOROWITZ BIOGRAPHY: \nDr. Richard Horowitz is a board-certified internist and the medical director of the Hudson Valley Healing Arts Center\, an integrative medical center which combines both mainstream and integrative approaches in the treatment of Lyme disease and other tick-borne disorders. He has treated over 13\,000 Lyme and tick-borne disease patients in the last 41 years\, with patients coming from all over the US\, Canada\, and Europe to his clinic. He is former Assistant Director of Medicine of Vassar Brothers Hospital in Poughkeepsie\, N.Y.\, and is one of the founding members and past president elect of ILADS\, the International Lyme and Associated Diseases Society. He is also past president of the ILADEF\, the International Lyme and Associated Diseases Educational Foundation\, a non-profit organization dedicated to the education of health care professionals on tick-borne diseases. Dr Horowitz has trained hundreds of healthcare providers in diagnosing and caring for patients with treatment-resistant tick-borne disorders and was previously awarded the Humanitarian of the Year award by the Turn the Corner Foundation as well as awards from Project Lyme for his treatment of Lyme Disease. He has dedicated his life to helping those stricken with this devastating illness. \nHe is the author of two best-selling books on Lyme disease\, Why Can’t I Get Better? Solving the Mystery of Lyme and Chronic Disease (2013\, St Martin’s Press\, NY Times Best Seller)\, and How Can I Get Better? An Action Plan for Treating Resistant Lyme and Chronic Disease (2017\, St Martin’s Press\, National bestseller). These books incorporate recent scientific advances and explain in detail how healthcare providers can effectively diagnose and treat resistant chronic illness. He has been a member of the Advisory Panel\, Lyme disease Educational Initiative\, at Harvard Medical School from 2021-2023 and in addition\, he has co-authored peer-reviewed Lyme guidelines. Dr Horowitz was a member of the HHS Tick-borne Disease Working Group and Co-chair of the “Other Tick-borne Diseases and Coinfections” subcommittee from 2017-2019 which provided recommendations to Congress to help the US improve the care of those suffering with tick-borne disorders. He also served as a member of the HHS Babesia and Tick-borne Pathogen Subcommittee and has recently served as a member of the NYS Department of Health Tick-borne disease Working Group from 2021-2024. \nFinally\, Dr Horowitz recently published several scientific articles on short-term oral antibiotic and integrative protocols that have been highly effective in the treatment of chronic Lyme disease/PTLDS and associated co-infections (dapsone combination therapy and the MSIDS model)\, as well as classical and integrative solutions for COVID-19. These have been effective in helping those with acute and chronic illness (see www.cangetbetter.com). He is the process of applying for an NIH grant to head up a multicenter\, placebo-controlled\, randomized clinical trial on the safety and efficacy of dapsone combination therapy for the treatment of chronic Lyme disease to prove to the world that we do have answers in the middle of this spreading global epidemic. In that regard\, he is also in the process of working on a digital app with researchers from the University of California Irvine to further improve the diagnosis and treatment of Lyme and associated illness to help those afflicted with this debilitating illness. \nDr H released his first novel\, Starseed R/evolution\, ‘The Awakening’ a cli-fi (science fiction/climate change) novel in March of 2022\, providing some unique solutions and hope for our present climate crisis (see https://starseed-revolution.com/ ) and he will be releasing his third science book on comprehensive answers for chronic disease late in 2026 through Simon and Schuster. His new science book called ‘Ending Chronic Illness: A Revolutionary New Program to Reverse Inflammation and Heal Persistent Disease’ will provide groundbreaking approaches to a broad range of chronic diseases. After a one year intensive dive into the scientific literature\, Dr H discovered that the 16 point MSIDS model that he pioneered for the diagnosis and treatment of chronic Lyme disease also applies to most chronic diseases affecting humanity which are causing suffering and disability. Ending Chronic Illness will provide innovative scientific solutions for both the prevention and treatment of diseases including but not limited to ADD/ADHD\, Autism\, Alzheimer’s disease\, allergies and asthma\, the 3 B’s (Borrelia\, Babesia\, Bartonella)\, cardiovascular disease\, cancer\, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome/M.E.\, digestive disorders\, environmental toxicity\, Fibromyalgia\, hormonal\, mood and pain disorders as well as acute and chronic viral infections. Since over 1 billion people worldwide and roughly half of the US now suffer with at least one chronic disease\, ‘Ending Chronic Illness’ is the book that the world has been waiting for. DESCRIPTION:Share this content:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Join Colorado Lyme & TBD Support Group & Colorado Tick-Borne Disease Awareness Association as we welcome Milena Pastore from Soul Tribe Yoga Collective: Yoga designed exclusively for chronic illness survivors. \nMilena is offering two separate and different intensity level virtual sessions on February 5\, 2023. Please see below for times and descriptions: \nWelcome to the Soul Tribe Yoga Collective! All are welcome in this virtual\, healing space. Here is what you can expect from a yoga session with Milena.\nClass Descriptions: \nLevel I: Healing Yoga for Very Limited Energy & Mobility – Coping with Difficult Days \nSunday\, February 5\, 2023\, from 2-3 PM (MST) \nThis class is designed for students who are struggling with severe pain\, exhaustion\, balance and/or enhanced cognitive issues. This is a good option for those who may be limited to their beds or couch. Level I incorporates careful movements that are designed to gently awaken the body by generating subtle energy and blood flow. Gentle breathwork and soothing meditation will aid students in reducing stress and quieting the mind. The entire session will take place while sitting or lying down. Contraindications will be offered as needed. \nClick here to register for the event through Meetup.com. Upon registration for this class\, please provide your email address in the Meetup.com message window so that a liability waiver can be sent to you for you to review and sign off on prior to class. \nLevel II: Healing Yoga for Limited Energy & Mobility – Enhancing the Better Days \nSunday\, February 5\, 2023\, from 3:30-4:30 PM (MST) \nThis very gentle class and is designed for students who are experiencing moderate pain\, fatigue\, and cognitive issues. This is a good option for those who have some mobility and range of motion with fair energy levels. Level II incorporates gentle movements and postures with peaceful breathwork and meditation techniques that are designed to awaken one’s inner healer as well as balance emotions and reduce stress. The session will include a mix of carefully selected postures that will be done while standing\, sitting\, and on our yoga mats. Contraindications will be offered as needed. \nClick here to register for the event through Meetup.com. Upon registration for this class\, please provide your email address in the Meetup.com message window so that a liability waiver can be sent to you for you to review and sign off on prior to class. \nWhat to Bring: \n\nClothing: Please wear comfortable\, loose-fitting clothing. Athletic apparel\, lounge wear or pajamas will work great.\nYoga mat: A yoga mat will not be necessary for Level I students unless you choose to lie on the floor as opposed to your bed or couch. For Level II students\, if you do not own a yoga mat\, please bring a towel\, or blanket that you can lie on for postures that we will be doing while situated on the floor.\nChair: Please have a sturdy\, safe chair handy or set your computer up near a couch. We will do some of our exercises while seated. For Level I students\, the entire session will take place either while lying down (on the floor\, or in a bed) and/or seated in a chair or on a couch.\nExtra towels\, blankets and/or cushions: Feel free to bring along any of these types of items that can be used to support yourself in any way necessary throughout the session. These items can be used to bolster your head or any part of your body. You can also use a blanket or towel as a cover if you are feeling chilled. If you do not have any of these extra items\, that is not a problem.\nWater: Bring plenty of water and/or any other fluids that you rely on such as an herbal tea or electrolytes. It will be important to stay well-hydrated. As well\, the work we will be doing to stimulate our bodies and minds can awaken deep-seated energy and emotions\, often generating the release of toxins which will need to be flushed.\nSnacks: Feel free to bring a light snack\, or plan to enjoy one once we are finished\, especially if you tend to experience low blood sugar. Nuts\, trail mix\, crackers\, an energy bar or fruit are ideal options.\nSpeaker and/or Headphones: Your computer’s speakers will work just fine. If possible\, I suggest hooking up to a good speaker for the session to enhance the experience. If you are comfortable doing so\, you are also welcomed to use regular or Bluetooth headphones. Bluetooth headphones can be used for the entire session while headphones with a chord can be used during our final resting pose\, where we will lie down and meditate in stillness.\nTissues: You may want to have a box of tissues handy to clear your nasal passages for the breathwork exercises\, especially if you are congested. And\, as mentioned earlier\, sometimes emotions can be stirred up – including difficult ones. If tears well up and start to flow\, that is absolutely okay.\nAnimal companions: All are welcome to these yoga sessions! You may find that your animal companions will be curious and eager to join in. They tend to be attracted to the healing and peaceful energy that we will be generating. They may want to participate in the experience and be present to support you.\n\nProtocol: \n\nLiability Waiver – The waivers will be distributed to all who register as we get closer to the event date. Each student will need to sign off on one prior to the start of class.\nQuiet Space: It will be ideal if you can set up for our practice in a peaceful and quiet room. This is for your benefit as well as the group. For the Level II class\, you’ll want an area with enough space to stretch out on your mat and move freely.\nTurn off your microphone: Since we cannot always control the background noise that may occur in or around our homes\, I will ask that everyone puts their microphones on mute. This is out of respect for one another\, as well as to reduce internet bandwidth. If you have any questions or concerns during the session\, I ask that you type them in the chat box\, which I will be keeping a close eye on. Should any issues arise that require further discussion\, I will ask you to then turn on your microphone so that we can do our best to find a solution.\nCellphones: Throughout the session I will ask that we all refrain from looking at or using our cell phones. Unless you are dealing with an emergency\, I ask that we treat these sessions the same as we would if we were joining together in a studio space. This will help all of us to get the most out of our time together.\nVisibility/Camera: It is up to you whether you feel comfortable to have your camera on or off. I would love to be able to see you throughout the entire session\, as well as offer any necessary pointers. However\, if you feel more comfortable with your camera off\, that is also acceptable.\nPrivacy & Respect: We will be joining together as individuals from different backgrounds\, situations\, viewpoints\, and beliefs. Battling with chronic illness makes us all uniquely vulnerable and sensitive\, in our own distinct ways. It is important that we maintain open minds and treat one another with kindness and respect. I ask that we all do our best to practice mindfulness and self-awareness when it comes to our actions and words\, ensuring they come from a place of non-judgement\, love\, and support.\n\nThis information is provided in an effort to help you best prepare. It may seem like a lot but please do not fret. These sessions are meant to be relaxed and inclusive to all participants. If you do not have the time or ability to adequately prepare in all of the ways mentioned above\, you will still be able to achieve great healing and benefit simply by showing up. If you have any questions or concerns prior to the session\, please do not hesitate to contact Milena at 719-480-4260 or milenapastore@gmail.com \nNamaste\,\nMilena \nSoul Tribe Yoga Collective\nRead Milena’s Full Bio here[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]*COTBDAA does not provide medical advice. SUMMARY:Lyme Disease & Pregnancy
DESCRIPTION:Share this content:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] \n\n\n\nMothers Against Lyme & Project Lyme present an interactive webinar with research program officers from the NIH\nAbout this Event\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLyme disease infects nearly half million men\, women\, and children across the U.S. each year. The third most prevalent infectious disease (behind Chlamydia and Gonorrhea\, both STD’s)\, Lyme disease saddles a large percentage of its victims with lingering symptoms\, diminishing their health\, well-being\, and quality of life. When the disease strikes children\, it is especially heartbreaking\, as little ones suffer early in life\, never experiencing a life without the pain of disease. While it is widely accepted that Lyme disease is spread by a tick bite\, it is less well known that the agent of Lyme disease\, Borrelia burgdorferi\, can cross the placenta\, both infecting\, and causing harm to\, unborn children. \nIn partnership with the National Institutes of Health to encourage new research in the field of tick-borne illness\, this webinar will provide researchers the opportunity to learn about the application process and seek guidance from NIH program officers. Don’t miss this opportunity to learn how to gain access to newly available funds from the Federal government. \nLyme Disease and Pregnancy: State of the Science and Opportunities for Research Support\nAgenda\n1.
