Colorado Tick-Borne Disease Awareness Association (COTBDAA) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization established in August 2016 to elevate awareness of Lyme and other tick-borne diseases for Coloradans and throughout the Rocky Mountains. Our mission to elevate awareness of tick-borne disease includes education, prevention, research and advocacy, including patients support.
AWARENESS: Provide Coloradans access to accurate and updated information about the risks, prevention, diagnosis and treatment of tick-borne diseases. Host or participate in community events to further awareness.
EDUCATION: Educate Coloradans about the prevention of tick-borne diseases and increase awareness of the risks and wide-ranging symptoms of tick-borne illnesses. Provide educational programs, “Colorado Tick Talks”, and materials to schools, agencies, employers, groups, outdoor educators, outdoor recreationists, medical practitioners, and community at large.
PREVENTION: Develop and distribute educational materials and provide programs relevant to Coloradans regarding risk, safety and prevention of tick-borne diseases.
RESEARCH: Collect data and assist with research efforts to broaden our knowledge of ticks and pathogens they may be carrying in Colorado. Support ongoing efforts of other organizations in pursuit of tick and disease distribution and prevalence, patient care, disease prevention, testing, treatment and cure.
ADVOCACY: Facilitate dialogue and collaboration between patients, medical providers, insurance companies, policy makers, the Colorado Department of Health, County Public Health Departments, and other stakeholders with the goal of creating an environment where all Coloradans can access accurate information and timely, effective, evidence-based care for Lyme and other tick-borne diseases. Encourage Colorado medical providers to gain knowledge and expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of Lyme and other tick-borne diseases. Provide dependable support and resources for those affected by Lyme and other tick-borne diseases.
