Our Mission

Colorado Tick-Borne Disease Awareness Association (COTBDAA) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization established in August 2016 with the mission to elevate awareness of Lyme and other tick-borne diseases/conditions for Coloradans and beyond through education, prevention, research and advocacy, including patient support.

     AWARENESS

Provide increased access to accurate and updated information about the risks, prevention, diagnosis and treatment of Lyme and tick-borne diseases and associated illnesses.

EDUCATION

Educate public about how to prevent Lyme and other tick-borne diseases and associated illnesses; and increase awareness of the wide-ranging symptoms of tick-borne illnesses and associated illnesses.

PREVENTION

Develop and distribute educational materials and provide programs regarding risk, safety and prevention of tick-borne diseases and associated illnesses.

RESEARCH

Through the power of Citizen Science, collect data and assist with research efforts to broaden our knowledge of ticks and the pathogens they may be carrying in Colorado. As well as support ongoing efforts of other organizations in pursuit of tick and disease surveillance, patient care, disease prevention, testing, treatment and cure at a national level.

ADVOCACY

Facilitate dialogue and collaboration between patients, medical providers, insurance companies, policy makers, health departments, and other stakeholders with the goal of creating an environment where access to accurate information and timely, effective, evidence-based care for Lyme and other tick-borne diseases and associated illnesses is accessible to everyone. Encourage medical providers to gain knowledge and expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of Lyme and other tick-borne diseases and associated illnesses. Provide support and resources for those affected by Lyme and other tick-borne diseases and associated illnesses.

PATIENT SUPPORT

Provide dependable support and resources for individuals and families affected by Lyme or other tick-borne diseases and associated illnesses. Provide financial assistance through the LymeAid 4 Kids fund, in memory of Pat Smith, for testing and treatment of children 21 years and younger at a national level. Provide the Dr. Search System to connect patients with medical providers experienced in diagnosis and treatment of Lyme and other tick-borne diseases and associated illnesses.
