2018 CDC Study Shows Alarming Trend for Vector-Borne Diseases

CDC releases results of study Vital Signs: Trends in Reported Vectorborne Disease Cases — United States and Territories, 2004–2016.

-Disease cases from mosquito, tick, and flea bites tripled in the US from 2004-2016. Diseases cases from ticks alone have doubled in the US from 2004-2016

-Nine new germs spread by mosquitoes and ticks have been discovered or introduced since 2004.  Seven of these germs are spread by ticks.

-About 80% of vector control organizations lack critical prevention and control capacities.
